This is one of the last remaining corrugated iron boathouses on the Macclesfield Canal. These structures were common from the small skiff type of the early 20th century to the ones that held cabin cruisers in later years. The last ones are to be seen on the High Lane Arm which is leased to the North Cheshire Cruising Club. They are disappearing because they are too small to accommodate the modern steel narrowboats that are in the majority today.

Brentford warehousing

I grabbed this shot of the remaining corrugated iron fascia of the canal warehouses at Brentford as I passed by boat. The floating pontoons are to keep the public using the towpath well away whilst the site is redeveloped. The next week all these structures were dismantled and demolished. No doubt apartment blocks will arise in double-quick time.

Warehouse at Brentford Dock clad with corrugated asbestos cement panels. This building and surroundings seem to be occupied with old buses, including a number of Routemasters.

Corrugated iron workshop and offices for Kings Coaches at Middlesbrough. This business has now moved out of the premises and last time I checked the buildings were empty and derelict.

In the shadow of the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge are a couple of corrugated iron buildings. At the time these were serving as workshops for Kings Coaches although that business has now moved out.

Lifeboat Station

The St Abbs lifeboat was established in 1911 and withdrawn by the RNLI in 2015. Since then an independent lifeboat has been put in place following a contribution of £260,000 by Thomas Tunnock & Sons Ltd. The boathouse is leased to the lifeboat charity by the St Abbs Harbour Trustees.

Inside of a storage hut on the technical area at Wickenby Airfield in Lincolnshire. This was a RAF WWII bomber base. Just like a big Nissen hut.

The Band Room at Low Mill, Farndale, North Yorkshire, was built for the local silver band in the 1920s. It now serves as a village hall and also as a 100 seat concert venue which sees a wide range of top acts from the folk, country, roots and Americana scene.

The Sherburn Stone Company works this place in a low key manner to extract ornamental fossil-bearing limestone known as Frosterley Marble. This was also the site of Durham Industrial Minerals processing plant for fluorite from Groverake Mine until it closed in 1999.

Knolton Mission Church, Knolton Bryn, Overton. This was built c1890 to serve a scattered, mainly agricultural community to the south of the village centre, and located on the edge of a small common. It is now undergoing extensive refurbishment and conversion to a house. The building is listed Grade II.

I nearly missed this Nissen Hut at Titchwell whilst driving past on the A149. Another year or two and it will have vanished completely beneath the vegetation.

Not all nissen type huts have corrugated iron roofs. The non-rusting nature of asbestos meant that quite a lot of them used corrugated asbestos sheets instead. This example is at Corda Well Farm, Astbury.
