Setting up for a coverage testing run. The vehicle, via a pump-up mast transmits a signal on a fixed frequency. A railmotor with a corresponding receiver runs past recording the signal strength and quality. This information is used to confirm or otherwise the suitability of this site. This is at Portland NSW.

Clandulla station. There were no passenger services on this line at this time. The only activity took place in the hut at the far end of the platform. It was used for electric staff safeworking. November 1993.

The test transmitter at Charbon Junction. After we had set up here we found a huge bullant nest next to the rear wheel on this side. We got ants in the vehicle and were still killing some the next morning. None of us were stung though.
