no longer able to patch it up -&lt;br /&gt;
this downtown building will be demolished -&lt;br /&gt;
yet, as much as can be salvaged will be -&lt;br /&gt;
and used in the one replacing it -&lt;br /&gt;
originally it was a wood building  (late 1800's) -&lt;br /&gt;
but burned -&lt;br /&gt;
replaced by a brick structure ( from research) -&lt;br /&gt;
it has held many businesses -&lt;br /&gt;
the &lt;b&gt;note&lt;/b&gt; on the top photo -&lt;br /&gt;
shows where a metal rod was capped with the star shape -&lt;br /&gt;
to keep the building from cracking any more -&lt;br /&gt;
from the &lt;i&gt; great Charleston Earthquake in 1886 &lt;/i&gt; -&lt;br /&gt;
the Earthquake was so strong it damaged buildings at least as far as Danville, Virginia &lt;br /&gt;
