If I happen to be with someone who pulls a mushroom for ID purposes, then I will photograph the underside with no guilt, LOL. Sometimes, when walking through the forest, I'll come across a mushroom that has either been knocked over or pulled by someone and so take a photo or two. The colour of this mushroom was amazing. Thanks to Doug (dougwaylett) and Ron (Ron Wolf) for the ID and extra information : )

One of his two owlets was in the next tree, screeching non-stop, so presumably it was hungry. Dad turned round to look at me once and then ignored me. I've read that flattened eartufts mean that the bird is under stress, but it was not from my presence. Half a dozen shots and I was out of there anyway. Though it looks like I was very close to this owl, in fact he was way up in a tall tree! Lighting was grim, in amongst the trees. No sign of Mom and the other owlet.

It doesn't matter how many times I see one of these huge, almost prehistoric looking birds, I am still filled with awe. The two today kept flying from tree to tree and occasionally to a log. One of the biggest challenges is to try and get a photo with no twigs or blades of grass in the way!! They gave us a chance to shoot in different settings, which was really nice and much appreciated. For those of you who are not familiar with this Woodpecker, this is a female - the male has a red moustache, but not the female. Also, the female's red crest starts on the crown, whereas the male's crest begins at the forehead. In Alberta, the Pileated Woodpecker is uncommon to common year-round.

I love old cars, and this absolutely beautiful 1931 Cord L-29 is just one of many vehicles on display in the new Gasoline Alley building at Heritage Park. This was the first time I had been to the Park since this and a number of other new buildings were completed. Was there yesterday evening for a Volunteer Recognition evening with an organization with whom I have volunteered for many years. A most enjoyable evening, with good company and super appetizers, ending with a wander round the magnificent car display. Can you imagine what it must have felt like for the owner of this vehicle to drive around in it many years ago?

"The Cord L-29 was the first American front-wheel drive to win popular approval. Front-wheel drive allowed the car to be lower to the ground than other vehicles of the time. Coupled with a long hood, this made the Cord one of the most rakish, visually striking cars on the market. The L-29 line was phased out in 1932-customers could no longer afford the $3000 price tag, especially since a Ford Model A was just a tenth of the cost."
