This is Trutnov Hlavni Nadrazi in Trutnov, where I had gone in an attempt to attend the Trutnov Open Air Music Festival. The Trutnov festival is an annual mainstream rock festival with hippie roots that was one of the first to start up after the Velvet Revolution. I ended up skipping it in the end in spite of having bought the train ticket, as it was overcrowded, secured like a prison (meaning that if there wasn't any place to camp, I would be stuck there with no place to sleep), and the security looked intrusive and hostile. By managing it like Woodstock '99, they lost the large ticket price that I could have paid them, and I ended up spending the day photographing the city of Trutnov. Trutnov isn't a bad place to sightsee, after all, as it dates to the 12th Century, and features many preserved buildings from the Baroque period and earlier.

This was the yard, with a Class 814 and an 810 waiting to work local services. Telc doesn't have a direct connection to Prague, in spite of its status, but it can be reached fairly easily via either Tabor and Kostelec u Jihlavy or Havlickuv Brod and Kostelec u Jihlavy. At some times of day, Kostelec can also be accessed more quickly via Ceske Budejovice.

This is the station at Telc, a popular tourist destination and UNESCO world heritage site. I visited at the time when there were very few tourists there, partly because it was right after New Year's, but also because the weather was quite cold and most of the businesses were closed.

I've never gotten a photo of a CD Class 741 diesel before, as they're a bit rare. These two are actually operated by Viamont, which is a construction contractor and TOC, and as such are pulling a ballast train. Their TOC operations are mostly in regional services, using Class 810 railbuses, but I haven't seen any of them yet. Getting back to these locomotives, the 741 Class are relatively new by Czech standards, having only been introduced since 2000 by CZ LOKO, a rebuilder who make them out of old Class 740 hood units originally built by CKD in the 1970's and 1980's. In addition to the lowered hood, both long and short, as you can see here, these locomotives have been regeared for 90Km/h service. Power is still 883kW (1184 horsepower), however.

I liked the Fall colors of this scene, and I've been meaning to post another shot composed like this for a long time. I really should try to reshoot this with a proper camera, though, as maybe the main reason this is the best I've been able to do is that every time I try it, I try it with the cameraphone.
