Green Drain and Brick Wall, Boston, 1967 (H.A.N.W.E.)

Taken in 1967, while I was wandering around the older part of Boston. This was the original color slide (Agfachrome), professionally scanned.

I had to work very hard on the tone, since the original was very dark. After exposing the shadows, there was some sharpening applied.

(Oh yes, taken with my Leica IIIa, 127mm lens.)

Here I tried a nearly full crop and some attempt to tone the monochrome. Used some aggressive sharpening.

4 Princelet Street, Spitalfields, was built in 1723. Though it is no longer serving as a residence, over the past 300 years it has housed Huguenot silk weavers, the grandson of the founder of Truman Brewery, various laborers, a Polish Jew (a tailor) and his family among others. It is currently hired out for filming and events. I got to see the inside during an exhibition by Gagosian Gallery of the early works of Christo, which were staged throughout the house.

This is one of my all-time favourite buildings in London and I walk by often. Here's a shot of the exterior:

All that remains of the fountain is a roundel plaque (see previous photo) and this drain in the pavement, plus a little metal plaque telling us that it had been installed by the Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association. Fitzjohn's Avenue at Lyndhurst Road, Hampstead.

The River Fleet flows underground beneath this grating in Wicklow Street. The Fleet rises on Hampstead Heath and makes a zigzag course south to the Thames.
