Mesquite Flat Dunes are along the main road through Death Valley and near Stovepipe Wells. We often watch the sunrise and sunset there when we are in the National Park.

Death Valley National Park has a number of areas where there are sand dunes, some of them inaccessible except with a 4WD vehicle. Mesquite Flat Dunes are right along the main highway through the park and a popular spot. We watched the sunset there one evening, hiking the dunes and waiting for the sun to go down. The sunset did not amount to much but the light and shadows on the dunes were worth the visit and some photos.

Traveling from Death Valley to Ash Meadows Wildlife Refuge we saw these sand dunes in the distance, but our information warned us of the danger of getting stuck without a four-wheel drive vehicle, so we had to be content to view them from a distance.

On our way from Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona to Zion National Park in Utah, we stopped for a few hours at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, also in Utah, and hiked the dunes there.

On our way to Zion National Park from Grand Canyon we stopped at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park and wandered the dunes for an afternoon. There was still some water in places in the dunes and this photo was taken at one of those ponds.

I don't know if I would describe these dunes as "coral pink" but they were beautiful whatever color they were. We stopped at this state park on our way from Grand Canyon to Zion National Park.

Last year in February and early March, just before the covid crisis hit, we went to Texas, New Mexico and Arizona for a few weeks. We spent a few hours at the end of a day in the course of our travels at White Sands National Park in New Mexico. These gypsum dunes are the worlds largest and an amazing place. We hiked the dunes and watched the sunset before spending the night in Alamogordo, New Mexico, traveling on the next day to Grand Canyon.

I've been posting a few photos from our recent trip, mostly panoramas taken with my phone, before finishing the long series of Yellowstone photos. This is another panorama taken at White Sands National Monument in the Tularosa Basin near Alamogordo, New Mexico. This is not snow but gypsum sand that has formed dunes and flats over a huge area. The area of the park is completely surrounded by the White Sands Missile Range and Holloman Air Force Base and occasionally has to be closed when missile tests are being conducted.

This is the Little Sable Point Lighthouse. The lighthouse is in Michigan on the east shore of Lake Michigan near Silver Lake. I was there recently with my brother and a friend photographing the sunset and doing some astral photography.
