This owl was photographed in a tent during a display of owls that due to injury or captive breeding, could not live in the wild.  The photograph was shot at a relatively high ISO while the owl was being carried down an aisle.  Considering the distance, the lighting and the motion, I was ecstatic that the photo came out as well as it did.&lt;br /&gt;

It is postulated that the coloration is a form of mimicry.  Potential preditors might not approach if they mistook the pattern for eyes of someone who might turn the tables and eat them.&lt;br /&gt;
