Such gorgeous, hairy plants! Legend says that the Great Spirit gave this delicate plant a fur coat to keep it warm until spring nights turn warmer. This is a photo taken on 5 May 2006 at Shannon Terrace, Fish Creek Park. Last spring, I photographed my first one on 26 March, but everything will be delayed this year because of our long, hard winter.

That was the more pleasant part - the rest of the "work" was not enjoyed at all, LOL! By the way, the white background resulted from shooting towards my light grey siding, which was really blown out because of the very bright sunlight: )

Seen growing at the Reader Rock Garden almost two weeks ago. Several of these small Lily flowers grow up a single stem, so it's not always possible to avoid bits of leaves or petals belonging to the next flower.

The weather has been beautiful today - a surprise after our tremendous rain and hail storm yesterday evening. I haven't watched the News to see what flood damage was done, but there must have been damage from the storm in parts of the city.

We had a long day of walking today, recording all the plants, animals, birds, etc. in Bragg Creek Provincial Park. Two highlights of the day for me was a little cluster of three teeny Bird's Nest Fungi, and seeing a new plant, Menzies' Catchfly (will have to check the name and spelling). And now I am totally exhausted after doing more walking than we expected. Was nice to call in at the Cinammon Spoon for coffee afterwards : ) I did drive down a couple of my usual backroads on the way home - loved soaking up all that glorious Canola colour! This week, I will be out for another three full-day outings in a row - if I can manage that many. Will be useless for anything by the time Sunday arrives, LOL. And it's going to be hot, hot, hot - and I don't do well at all in the heat : (

And it's going to be hot, hot, hot - and I don't do well at all in the heat : (
</media:text>

You have all made my last three years here on Flickr a delight. I appreciate every single time you have stopped by to look at my photos and to leave a comment. Your words of encouragement have helped keep me going and I believe have helped me to improve my skills : ) Well, perhaps "skills" is the wrong word, seeing as I still don't know how the various settings on my camera work, LOL, but you know what I mean. I was out on a two-hour + walk in a local park in around -28C (-18F) weather this morning and had nicely warmed up, back home in the warmth. Now, looking at this gorgeous white Crysanthemum, I'm feeling cold again : ) Not sure if it because of the white or maybe the petals remind me of ice crystals. I needed to post a hot image next to this, hence my water droplets against red, LOL.

What an almost perfect day it is today, as far as the weather goes. Bright blue sky, endless sunshine, though very windy. I went walking in Fish Creek Park this morning and was lucky enough to see a very distant Northern Pygmy-owl perched on a bare branch high up in a deciduous tree. After a minute or two, it flew across the path ahead of us. SO good to know that at least one of these gorgeous Owls is back in the same area again. They are so tiny, about the size of a pop-can or someone's clenched fist! Oh, and we also saw a Mink - too far away to get a photo and it quickly slid into the water and disappeared anyway. I'd never seen one before : )
