I was very much struck by how retro this train looked, and I do in fact wonder about its age. I don't know very much about Swedish equipment.

This night train from Stockholm (I think) was sitting in Berlin Hbf when I arrived early in the morning, having just arrived after rolling all night.

109-1 was originaly 109 084, back when it worked for Deutsche Bahn. Now classified as a Deutsche Bahn Class 109 electric, originally it was classified as a DR E11 Class prior to 1989. While quite old now, being built sometime in the early 1960s, it still is working these night trains.

The new Berlin Hbf, while based on an older design, is so heavily rebuilt at this point that it's basically a two-year-old station. It's crammed with shops of all kinds, in addition to hosting an immense number of trains everyday (It would be cool to know the precise number, but I don't.). While waiting for my train, and photographing the Scandlines night train that had just arrived, I also noticed the opportunity to compose this shot, so I did.

This is the entrance to a World War II bomb shelter that was located in one of the Untergrundbahn stations, although regrettably I've forgotten which one. If anyone remembers I would love to know.

This was one of the most difficult photos that I took on my whole visit to Berlin, as they wouldn't let me take my tripod into the museum, so I had to wedge the camera between some things, I forget exactly what. Somehow, in spite of this, and in spite of shooting Agfa APX, which is only a 100 ISO film, I managed to get a reasonably crisp shot in lighting that was so dark it was even noticable to the human eye.

This is the Berlin Technical Museum....or whatever that is in German. I've forgotten. :-) The airplane, unless I'm wrong (please someone correct me if I'm wrong) is a Douglas DC-3, which was closely related to the C-47 Skytrains used during the Berlin airlift.
