Straw hats woven in Ecuador, like many other 19th and early 20th century South American goods, were shipped first to the Isthmus of Panama before sailing for their destinations in Asia, the rest of the Americas and Europe, subsequently acquiring a name that reflected their point of international sale, 'Panama hats', rather than their place of domestic origin"

After bleaching, the hats are left to dry inside out. They are then heated on a press to obtain their final shape.

"The profession of gondolier is controlled by a guild, which issues a limited number of licenses granted after periods of training and apprenticeship, and a major comprehensive exam which tests knowledge of Venetian history and landmarks, foreign language skills, and practical skills in handling the gondola typically necessary in the tight spaces of Venetian canals."

The Citadelle is today a military base and an official residence which is located atop Cap Diamant in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. It was built in the 17th Century as a French fort and expanded by the British between between 1820 and 1831. In its time, because of its location at the top of the hill overlooking a narrow strait and its star shape, it was a mighty defense against a potential threat by the Americans and potential internal revolt.
