Damaged statue - although when it was vandalised is not stated ; most probably during the dissolution of the monasteries or in the English Civil War. Alternatively, from the depredations of the Reivers.

Identity of the figure depicted is unclear, possibly an angel or saint.

The more ornate internal west door, leads directly into the main part of the parish church, which comprises the first six bays of the nave from the much larger monastic structure.

Memorial to Joseph Saul, a well-liked and good school teacher. Carved white marble, and located high up in the entrance lobby.

Having "translated" the Roman numerals - he died 28th October 1843 at the age of 73.

The outer west doorway.
Round top arches like this are typical of the "Norman" period, and match the founding date of 1150.
I can't make out the inscription - probably in Latin !
Above the doorway are three panels, the outer pair probably had armorial badges.

The door is, I think, Oak and I presume that it had to be replaced after the arson attack in 2006 which destroyed the roof and much of the internal features. I get the impression that the blackened areas date from 2006.

The area around the church has some old graves & headstones.
Not at all sure of the purpose for this monument ... nor the picnic tables.
It's not the village Cenotaph.

Abbeytown centotaph, a granite obelisk on a plinth & base of the same material.
[War Memorial Register no. 3997]
Commemorates both WW1 and WW2 casualties; 21 names for the former and another 6 for the latter.
