BR/English Electric Class 08 diesel-electric shunter 08682 at Hope Cement Works. This locomotive was built at Horwich Works and released to traffic numbered as D3849 on 29/08/1959. It is now owned by the Harry Needle Railroad Company and remains in the colourful livery applied by Bombardier when in its ownership at Derby. This locomotive was formerly named 'Lionheart' but the name has now been removed.

Harry Needle Railway Company class 20 No.3 (formerly 20906) emerges from the silo area at the Breedon Cement works at Hope with a rake of coal empties. Currently large quantities of coal from South Wales are being stockpiled here.

The cement works at Hope in the Peak District was established in 1929 by the Hull based firm of G & T Earle Ltd. The location gave easy access to the shale and limestone required to make cement and large quarries were developed to the north-east and south-west of the works. This view shows the very early development of the limestone quarry in 1929 with its narrow gauge railway incline to take the stone down to the kilns. Today the quarry remains in use but the incline has long been replaced by a conveyor.

Hope Cement No.2. Formerly 20168 this class 20 was in use at Cement works of Hope Construction Materials and named Sir George Earle. It is owned by the Harry Needle Railroad Company and remains at the site which is now owned by Breedon Cement Limited.

Class 20s on hire from the Harry Needle Railroad Company and hard at work at Hope cement works. On the right the coal empties are being removed by No.82 which is former 20 066 whilst working the cement loading hoppers is No.3, formerly 20 906.

Class 20s numbered 3 and 82 at the Breedon Hope Cement works along with No.5 (Andrew Barclay 613 of 1977) during an Industrial Railway Society visit. The railway was very busy with cement being loaded and coal hoppers arriving and discharging.
