Another vintage shot, this time from 2013. Taken on a windy day on the Cumbrian coast near Humphrey Head. It must be windy here almost permanently judging from the angle of this tree.

A little artistic edit here to add to the flavour (˚◡˚)

As we were walking the path above the Lake District lake of Rydal Water I spotted this old dead tree. The sun was lighting it up against the backdrop of the lake below. I loved the way the pointing branches seem to be alive although plainly dead with these harmonic soft colours.
Almost very secondary is the dry stone wall and leafless trees along its base.

A Big tree

As we walk beyond the Yorkshire Dales village of Middleham we pass this magnificent tree. It really was very big but despite it distinctive long leaves I cannot truly identify it. I also took a photo just of the centre part with the old barn thinking that was the major catch but no, I find I like this better. See PiP.

This tree, I have known since it was very young indeed. I have followed it with photographs through the years and seasons and it has never failed to impress me. I realised as I was looking at the results on my computer that I did not have one of it on Ipernity when covered in leaf.

Another look at this tree (from the opposite side) seemingly growing out of solid rock, this time in monochrome. As you can see here it does sit on a bit of soil and I presume its roots are well embedded in crack within the rocks.

A trip to Brimham Rocks in North Yorkshire is a delightful one for photographers and children alike. A giant playground of fanciful rocks that look more man carved than natures. Here we see one of my favourite subjects, a ‘lone-tree’ growing almost miraculously from a crack and soil laden shelf on/in the bare rock itself . (A photo from the other side to come.)

Brimham Rocks, once known as Brimham Crags, is a 183.9-hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest and an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The site is known for its water- and weather-eroded rocks, which were formed over 325 million years ago and have assumed fantastic shapes. Lots of the rocks, made of sandstone, have old druid names such as Druids Alta, Druids Writing desk etc.

Another tree from this favourite little spot up in our Yorkshire Dales near the small town of Settle. This is limestone country and so the chalky rocky breaks easily –easy enough for a tree root to take hold anyway.

Back in the English Lake District, we see here a view just to the NW of Ennerdale Water. There is a lot of weather around here and this slightly higher viewpoint is a place where winds shape the trees.

As little Bo Peep might have said to one of her lost sheep. A view down into Wastwater with rocks and scree underfoot but still we see trees such as this twisting Hawthorne clinging to the sides.

This lone tree in the Yorkshire Dales, knows what is to come. Moments after taking this, the heavens opened up and we had torrential rain but afterwards all was back to normal and the tree quite happy.

These trees, up in our Yorkshire Dales have a tough time. Not only do they have fierce winters up here but they have little to cling onto. This lone tree however thrives up on the tops near Langcliffe, clinging to the stone and displaying its new green leaves.

Around Settle and Langcliffe in our Yorkshire Dales there are a few limestone outcrops. Here we see one dominated by this lone tree. In the distance sits one of Yorkshires three peaks: Pen-y-ghent.

The PiP shows a similar one not too far from here.
