The Thai recipient of this card is a mother of triplets, which made me think of dancing & juggling at the same time. Background text is spliced-together quotations from a website on raising triplets. Clubs & greenery from a catalog. Thai dancer is a downloaded image + red colored pencil.

Background is a wrapping paper w/ rocks on it, from justgiggle.com. Robot heads from a Gahan Wilson cartoon. "Alien Technology from Another World" from a box containing a Martian popping thing (Archie McPhee).

The Italian text in the comic-book panel reads (roughly), "And the annihilating bomb resumes its growth!" The drawing I made (on graph paper), plus the silvery letters in an "alien" tongue, were adapted from intensely serious materials I found when I googled "extraterrestrial technology." A fascinating google: I recommend it some time when you don't have anything better to do.

I think of this one as an ugly child. Are there too many elements? Or is it just that the colors are somehow egregious? Whatever--I had fun making it, and I still like the way the address, return address & stamps float on separate islands.

Background from a Scientific American diagram comparing the atmosphere of Titan, one of Jupiter's moons, in brown, to that of Earth, in blue. The text for Titan's atmosphere includes "thick photochemical haze" & "methane"--yuk! Sunbather is from Carlos Perez Siquier's "Muñeca, 1974/2007." Devils are from an illustration by Yue Minjun.

This is the first book mailer on which I made the collage a separate entity from the mailing label. Earth Mother and border were drawn with markers. Vine/umbilical-cord is from an illustration in Mother Jones. Lotus is from a 1915 photo by Edward Steichen. Earth image is a sticker from a children's activity book.
