Spy Satellite Target Benchmark

Taken in the desert near Casa Grande, Arizona. These markers are located close to the RV park where we spent many winters.

The "target" is a group of concrete pads in that shape. There is a benchmark in the exact center. The operators of the spy satellites would take photos of these markers, and then check their locations against the exact positioning of the benchmark.

This is a "circle in a square" for Sunday Challenge.

A tiny, heartbreaking grave marker in the quiet cemetary at Prinknash Abbey - where monks and individuals associated with the Benedictine monastary are buried.

This made me think of the 6 word story "For Sale: Baby shoes. Never used." which I thought was attributed to Ernest Hemingway, but Wikipedia says otherwise.

Some are old and covered in moss, some still new and regularly tended.

I thought this image suited black and white, with the recently erected marker really standing out.

Sadly not one of the famous Egyptian pyramids, this is the daytime marker to aid maritime navigation built in 1810 at the northeastern tip of the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.

PIP #1: A side view of the marker which makes for a nice excusion from the main village on the island.

The metal boundary marker on the right is marked St P P (for St Pancras Parish) 1854. The large stone has E C carved into the other side of it, for Eton College, which owned this land until 1842 when it was given to the Crown for the creation of Primrose Hill park. On this side of the large stone is a benchmark, which usually denotes government property (possible added during WWI or WWII when Primrose HIll was used for army installations and anti-aircraft guns). I didn't see any marks on the smaller stone. I think this is the boundary of St Pancras Parish with the parish of St John at Hampstead, but I could be wrong about that.
