A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the theme of a motel, hotel, tent, or any sort of building or structure used for overnight accommodations while traveling.

Signs: "Hotel Allen." "The Allen House. Meals 25¢."

This is a real photo postcard addressed on the other side to Mrs. Mary Ackley, Wyalusing, Bradford Co., Penna., R.F.D. 38, and postmarked in Sandpoint, Idaho, on May 9, 1912.

Handwritten message: "Sandpoint Ida, May 8, 1912. Mrs. Ackley:-This is our new home. We bought in Feb., are moved and settled, have a fine trade, can seat 30 at once in our dining room. We are both real well and busy, making lots of garden. Wish you would take a start and come out, a change would do you good. Mrs. D. H. Allen. 511 North 2nd Ave., Sandpoint."

A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the theme of food.

The remnants of a meal were still on the table when the photographer snapped this picture. The calendar on the wall displays the month of July 1914, and it must have been a hot summer day judging by the sweat glistening on some of the faces. The dealer's notation on the back of this real photo postcard identifies the locale as Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

A meal ticket dated 1932 by the dealer I bought it from. This was evidently printed for use at the Stoverdale Camp Meeting grounds that were located near Hummelstown in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

Handwritten additions to the front of this ticket: "C. L. Deane & J.D.H. Jr. Sep. 6/88. (over.)"

"C. L. Deane" was clearly displeased with the food and service at the clambake that he and "J.D.H. Jr." attended as part of an early observance of Labor Day in 1888. The Bristol County Association, based in Bristol County, Massachusetts, was a local chapter of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), an American Civil War veterans' organization.

C. L. Deane may have been Charles Learned Deane (1871-1955). If so, he would have been only 17 years old when he registered his complaints about the clambake on his ticket for seat no. 332.

Handwritten message on the back of this real photo postcard: "This is the table where we had a many good meal those ten days. The lady at the end was a visitor. She brought 1 gal. of ice cream along."

The seven Raise 'ell campers and a visitor are seated around the table where they had "a many good meal" during their stay. Perhaps they're eating the ice cream that the woman at right brought with her. Next to her are two milk cans, which were probably used to store water. The stream that's visible In the background is Wills Creek, which is still a popular fly-fishing destination today.

Is that a Buster Brown outfit that the boy is wearing in this photo and the previous one?

1. Turn calorie wheel to "0" in small window.
2. Insert finger in notch indicating the calorie count for each item of food eaten. Push
notch to bottom of slot.
3. Read total calories in window. It will add up to the total for each meal.

For extremely heavy meals, where calorie wheel makes more than one complete revolution, add 1000 to total shown.

The Ponce de Leon Hotel in St. Augustine, Florida, was built by Henry Morrison Flagler, "a Gilded Age industrialist, railroad pioneer, and partner with John D. Rockefeller in Standard Oil" (as described on Flagler College's Legacy of Innovation page). The luxury hotel opened on January 10, 1888, and this menu dates to February 26 of that year. Today, the hotel building is part of Flagler College.

Gil Wilson 's History of the City of St. Augustine Web site contains additional information regarding the Ponce de Leon Hotel and Osborn Dunlap Seavey, the hotel's manager in 1888.
