Mesquite Flat Dunes are along the main road through Death Valley and near Stovepipe Wells. We often watch the sunrise and sunset there when we are in the National Park.

Death Valley National Park has a number of areas where there are sand dunes, some of them inaccessible except with a 4WD vehicle. Mesquite Flat Dunes are right along the main highway through the park and a popular spot. We watched the sunset there one evening, hiking the dunes and waiting for the sun to go down. The sunset did not amount to much but the light and shadows on the dunes were worth the visit and some photos.

One of the evenings we were in Death Valley National Park we watched the sunset at Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, walking the dunes and looking for photos.

We did not get the greatest of sunsets the fourth night of our stay in Death Valley and this was the best shot I had. Watching the sunset from the sand dunes there is nevertthless an experien e not to be forgotten.

This photo and the insets were taken as evening fell and the sun set on the fourth day of our visit to Death Valley. The sunset was nothing spectacular but the light on the sand dunes at Mesquite Flat was breathtaking. The mountains here are the Panamint Range on the west side of the valley.

We spent all of late afternoon and evening at Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes on the fourth day of our stay in Death Valley. We were waiting for the sunset but spent the time taking photos of the changing light on the dunes. This and the inset photos are the result.

The sand dunes at Mesquite Flat near Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley are one of several such areas. The other dunes are much less easily accessible since these lie right along the main road. They are one of the best places in the park for photos, especially at sunrise or sunset, and walking and climbing the dunes is encouraged

The sand dunes at Mesquite Flat near Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley are one of several such areas in the park. I believe the vehicles at the left are parked at Stovepipe Wells. In any case this photo, also from Death Valley National Park, looks west and catches the setting sun through the dust kicked up by a passing vehicle.

The last day of our trip to Death Valley National Park we watched the sunset at Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, climbing around the dunes and trying to find the best spot. This view looks east from some of the higher dunes toward the Amarcosa Mountains.
