It is the strangest grave I ever saw in my home country, where regulations are ubiquitous and very strict. Perhaps this was allowed under the condition that no real Gibson would be used...

In the province of North-Holland there is a local equivalent of the Bavarian rustical building style (an early example of which is our house): it is connected with the river Zaan, and could be described as ... well, see for yourself.

In the last decades, Oostknollendam has heartily adopted the Zaan style, which was quite rare when I first came there. So everything you see on this picture is fake –except the car, of course.

Standing on the dike along which the small village of Oostknollendam was built. The river Zaan is on the right, but can’t be seen on this picture. Its water is higher than the land behind the dike, so the cemetery is elevated, and on dike level. It is as charming as cemeteries can get: it must be a pleasure to lie buried there.

From 1950 onward, Philips’ Phonografische Industrie was located in the center of Baarn. If you happen to own old Phonogram records, the odds are that they have originated here.

Years ago, the main building was replaced by houses, and only these two identical buildings, on either side of the factory gate, remain.

This is were I saw my first movies. On the long run, my home town Baarn couldn’t afford the luxury of a real movie theatre, and a drugstore chain moved in ... not this one, BTW.

In Holland, autumn was later than usual.

Shortly before we left for Holland we had an Indian summer with 25º C; when we returned, temperature had sunk to just above zero: roofs were covered with snow. One has to be flexible.
