Der frühere Nato-Oberbefehlshaber Wesley Clark sieht sogar die Chance, dass eine Steigerung der westlichen Militärhilfe die Ukraine in die Lage versetzen kann, die russischen Truppen zu besiegen und aus der Ukraine zu vertreiben. Er hatte das Bündnis in der Zeit des Kosovo-Kriegs geführt.

Damit verschieben sich die Erwartungen, welche Zugeständnisse die Ukraine oder Russland bei Verhandlungen machen müssen. Je länger und erfolgreicher die Ukraine standhält, desto besser für ihre Position.

Die Ukraine ist "nur die erste Schlacht", die nächste betrifft Nato-Gebiet.

Clark hält mehr westliche Militärhilfe auch für geboten. Der Krieg um die Ukraine sei „nur die erste Schlacht“, sagt er im Gespräch mit der Deutschen Welle. Und zugleich „die leichteste Schlacht“.

Putin habe angekündigt, dass es ihm um die Wiederherstellung des sowjetischen Machtbereichs gehe. Wenn der Westen sich durch seine Drohung mit Atomwaffen davon abhalten lasse, der Ukraine die entscheidende Unterstützung zu geben, dann „findet die nächste Krise auf Nato-Gebiet statt“, warnt Clark mit Blick auf die baltischen Staaten.

A short update on my whereabouts. I've been alright.

Since last spring, I have totally lost my interest on amateur photography and social media. First I just planned to have a short break. But then it turned out as a "way of life". I got more time to spend with my close ones, and also more time to be idle, which is good in a long run. According to some studies, being idle and even bored is good for the brains.

But I also do feel like I have betrayed ipernity and all my contacts here. And I do feel ashamed because of that. Please try to forgive me that.

So, most likely I'll continue being idle and inactive. And definitely stop giving any promises, which I clearly can't keep. But I will continue paying for the ipernity standard subscription, to keep my articles and posts available.

And if you do need to reach out for me, you will find the way ;-)

A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the theme of adage illustrated (a photo illustrating a common adage—please identify the adage).

The old adage about two heads being better than one turns out to be true when it comes to a photo like this one. This is a nineteenth-century CDV showing two young women with their heads sticking out through the torn pages of a newspaper.

And why did they pose like this? They were perpetuating a photographic joke that was popular in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. They're literally breaking the news or perhaps just looking through the paper.

11 Broad Street, Margate. Formerly a hair cutter called Stuppell, then a newspaper office. Thanet Times moved out of here in 2009. The signs have been repainted since that time (sometime after 2016).
