Following a period 2008-2016 of management by a private consortium, the site has been returned to direct government control by making the Site Management Company, Sellafield Ltd, a subsidiary of the NDA. The site is due to be fully decommissioned by 2120 at a cost of £121bn.&lt;/div&gt;</description>

With 8 x 30mw generators it did not make large quantities of electricity, but it was the main source of weapons grade plutonium for Britain's nuclear weapons. Commissioned in 1959 this magnox station came off line in 2004. The four cooling towers that stood behind the reactor halls were demolished a few years before I took this photo in 2009 during decommissioning.&lt;/div&gt;</description>
