These flamingos were flying near Walvis Bay. Interesting contrast of their red/pink feathers and the blue haze. Those are ocean-going ships in the background, anchored in Walvis Bay.&lt;br /&gt;

This was taken at a pull-out on Maui (Papawai Scenic Lookout), where you can usually see whales during the season.&lt;br /&gt;

These folks are ready, but at least in this photo, no whales yet. (Must be tourists, no hats) The do have binoculars and video cameras at the ready.&lt;br /&gt;

The cable cars go right up the side of the cliff. (Yes, people walk all the way up and down on a pathway, if they want.)&lt;br /&gt;

There are fences all over the place on this island, including along the cable car pathway.&lt;br /&gt;

The photos were taken in Agate Beach, Oregon in 1918, when this fellow was in the Army. He was a "Spruce Soldier", the workers who logged the spruce lumber in the Pacific Northwest for the War effort.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
To get to the spruce stands, these soldiers created roads and railroads, usually by hand.&lt;br /&gt;

During that time, we lived in a house facing east. So we saw (and photographed) a lot of sunrises, some of them other-worldly. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
However, we rarely saw any sunsets on Maui. Many visitors to the island rave about the magnificent views they get on the west side of the island.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Well, we DID get a few sunset photos, primarily while visiting friends on the other side.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This is a sunset over the island of Lana'i.&lt;br /&gt;

This was actually a lens test. I used the Nikon D50 we had at the time, but attached a non-automatic Nikkor 50mm F1.4 "classic" lens. I'm still using that manual, fixed lens for some activities, even though I don't have a Nikon camera any more.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The sharpness is remarkable.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Yes, that was our view from our living room and lanai, enjoyed it for 9 years.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
(The string you see over the fence was fishing line placed to keep the birds off of the barrier.)&lt;/div&gt;</description>
