at the north end of catte st. is the little octagonal chapel of c1520 built originally into bastion of town wall near smith gate. the best bit is this doorway with an annunciation: the rest was rebuilt by jackson as part of hertford college

late c11 st george's chapel tower from the north, with the prison walls running east where the nave once did, the tower set slightly aslant. the stair tower and big openings probably post mediaeval if not georgian

st george's tower was set on the outer wall of the castle bailey, with a bridge and gateway between it and the 1071 motte, which is seemingly only slightly earlier in date. it served as both fortification and belfry of the castle chapel. the rainbow flag celebrates gay pride day 2015.
