thought it was a seed pod which formed after a night blooming cereus, but someone said it was a dragon fruit. Have seen dragon fruit in grocery stores.. this is more round shape than those. Any stab at an ID would be appreciated.

Seed pod forms at the base of the cereus bloom growing from green into a red seed pod. The bloom dries and falls off the end, while the seed pod is still nourished by the cactus.

Have since found out, this is a Dragon Fruit!

given by a friend, to this large over-the-fence climber, the cereus cactus begins the red-stage of the seed pod.
What changes this cactus goes through.. from a small pine-cone type bud..to an eliptecal green bud ready to burst forth with a delicate yellow & white fragrant, saucer size bloom ..now,to this red, almost prehistoric seed pod.
