Sooty oystercatchers

From Wikipedia "The sooty oystercatcher (Haematopus fuliginosus) is a species of oystercatcher. It is a wading bird endemic to Australia and commonly found on its coastline. It prefers rocky coastlines, but will occasionally live in estuaries. All of its feathers are black. It has a red eye, eye ring and bill, and pink legs." These birds are listed as "endangered" in NSW and the one at left had only one leg.

Part of the beautifully landscaped grounds of the Westbrook Vineyard and Winery, not far from Auckland. The wine I sampled there was also very tasty.

Reflecting on Perth

One thing that struck me in Perth was that quite a few of the old buildings have survived the rush to build glass towers, unlike some other Australian cities. For my money, the city is the better for it. For interest, in this shot, the sunlight on the older building is being reflected from the building nearer me.

Departures - the sun and us! Taken as we were about to leave at the end of our Easter car club gathering, with reflections on the roof of the car near the camera. We are now heading away again (and offline) for a little over a week. So glad that IP SA and the IMA are now finalising arrangements for the continuation of the site.

The middle of our town has a park with a lake, known as the "Water Gardens". It is here most of the thousands of fruit bats have taken residence in the trees, with resulting damage. HFF.
