Lighthouse and Hotel/Restaurant (HFF)

Taken during our visit to Namibia on our 2018 World Cruise.

This lonely lighthouse on Pelican Point might be interesting by itself, but there is a working restaurant also located at the very end of the sand spit near the port of Walvis Bay.

(possible update in 2026, the restaurant is no longer listed on Google Maps)

Nothing around. The only view is the harbor, seals, and ships.

Seems to be a working ATON.

Del's Restaurant, Tumcumcari, New Mexico

We stayed a night in Tumcumcari near this restaurant. We were in our motorhome, staying in what appeared to be a motel. (It turned out to be both a truly classic motel of the 1950's era, as well as a modern RV park!)

The New Mexican food at this place was great. Typical of the state, the restaurant also had a "gift shop" full of indian crafts and artwork.

I recently noticed that this sign qualifies as "googie architecture", a style that started in the LA area in the 1950's.

(Notice that they ran out of letters for "SALAD BAR", and had to use inverted "U"s.)

These benches were outside an automobile-themed restaurant. They took the tailgates of pickup trucks, and attached them to the wood frame of the bench.

Maui, 2007, Chinese New Year. We joined a happy group at a local restaurant, had a great dinner, and then were entertained by some youth lion dancers.

This woman is "feeding the lion", passing in money for good luck for the new year.

The proceeds went to the youth organization.

Some delicious dim sum.

Taken at an excellent Chinese restaurant in San Antonio, Texas. When we have the chance, we enjoy this style of food.

Dumplings on the left, sticky rice on the right.

For the Sunday Challenge, we definitely associate this style of food with Asia. Have enjoyed dim sum particularly in Hong Kong.

We were told about this place by some other folks at the RV park where we were staying. The small town of El Rito, New Mexico is pretty remote, but very interesting, and worth a visit.

The highlight for us was enjoying a dinner at El Farolito. This tiny restaurant consistently wins statewide awards for their food. They were very friendly and welcoming.

Interior, Acme Oyster House (HANWE)

We visited the New Orleans area in 2016. Had lunch at this branch of the well-known oyster restaurant, Acme Oyster House.

I used the phone to grab a picture of the neon lights and table in the restaurant. About an hour later, a tornado ran through the same area, causing much damage and some deaths. Makes you think.

(The Mandeville, Louisiana, location we visited was later closed, but there are still plenty of branches of this restaurant open in the New Orleans area, as of 2022)
