I took lots of photographs of the first four of the rafts taking part in this race, as they neared the finish line and the customary pelting with vegetables, stale bread and flour. The race is approximately seven miles long, along the Sussex Ouse, from Lewes to Newhaven.<br /> I like the look of determination on the face of the man with the paddle. I would guess that he was the oldest of the crew, but wanted to put as much effort into helping the team finish fast as they could. They finished in second place. The river flows either side of Denton Island. There are more yards on the side of the island facing this. Photoshop Elements was used to create the watercolour effect. Two copies of the photograph were made. The top layer was reduced to outlines and the opacity was lowered so they were very light. The layer underneath had a filter used to soften the edges of the shapes. One could have just used that layer, but the detail in the cranes and masts would have been lost, so the top layer was adjusted to restore those details.
