The rate of vaccinations has picked up slightly, again. Largely in response to increasing cases of the 'Indian' variant and the opening up of appointment slots to younger aged cohorts.

ONS sourced estimates for prople testing positive for covid-19 between July 2020 and May 2021. Note the addintions of data from Scotland & Northern Ireland in 2020.
Also the affect of the weak, second lockdown in reducing (or rather delaying) the development of the Second Wave. The growth rate appears very similar before and after the November 2020 lockdown.

By the start of May 2021, infections are starting to rise again.

Vaccine take-up rates for the 70+ age cohort, listed by ethnic group. These rates are better than for the over 50s, but then it is possible that some of these younger groups may be having trouble accessing the vaccination services. Nor have jabs been available to the younger people for as long as they have for the older groups.

Note that the base rate of cases around April 2021 was not as low as was achieved in the summer of 2020.

Still showing the disparities of low or very low uptake in certain ethnic groups.

Various measures are being implemented to try overcoming this vaccine hesitency. Ranging from the use of role models and celebrities to having "pop-up" centres in shops, community and religious buildings are all being used.

Still mainly concentrating on second doses. However, the increases incidence of infections by the "Indian" variant is encouraging vaccine take-up, as there has been a campaign in the affected areas to increase the proportion of people protected.
