A corner of the timber yard operated by R.G. Holz Ltd at Viseu de Sus, Romania. Timber is brought down to the yard for processing via a long narrow gauge railway which stretches up into the mountains close to the border with Ukraine.

Awaiting departure with the morning empty log wagons at Viseu-de-Sus. The coach is for the logging staff heading up the line to work. In the background the yellow coach is used on tourist trains, and behind are the hoists for handling logs in the timber yard.

Loading timber part way up the Novat branch on the forest line above Viseu-de-sus. The mud was everywhere, and typical of forestry operations. An unrepeatable scene as this branch has since been abandoned.

A slight technical problem

As we headed up the valley from Viseu de Sus the train came to a halt just outside Cozia where the track had been displaced sideways by logging tractors crossing the line. Local people heading home in the passenger coach attached ahead of the log bogies set to work and prepared the ballast so that the track could be slewed back. Within an hour the line was straight(ish) again and we went on our way.
