This view shows the three masts quite well, and the seven sails.

Mizzen - lanteen [triangular sail on an angled yard]

Main & fore mastg - square rigged on two yards

Bowsprit - has one square rigged yard, plus the upright one [it must have a name !], also with one square-rigged yard.

I must see if I can find some film to watch of her truly under full sail ...

The Sails Of The South are located in the central reservation of the M275, the motorway leading to the city of Portsmouth, Hampshire. The sails are 43 metres high and mark the junction with the M27 motorway. The design is meant to symbolise the three directions of the motorway intersection as well as recognising Portsmouth's maritime activities. The sails are normally illuminated at night.

Best viewed large, on black.

She has her bows and stern directly in line, but I think, from counting the yards, that she is square-rigged on at least two masts, the fore and main, If she has a mizzen, it may have a spanker.

The mizzen sail is now set, not that there is enough of a breeze to do anything.
The WSBA yachts found enough of the light winds, but at 11 1/2 tons we needed to motor.
