A welcome bit of shade..!!

nobody@ipernity.com (Keith Burton) — Fri, 26 Jun 2026 17:44:38 +0000

My local park is normally pretty busy at most times of day, but it was very hot on the day I took this shot and it was almost deserted. This person sitting in the shade caught my eye.

Taken in Horndean, Hampshire. The pylons and the overhead wires are very invasive.........but necessary, until we come up with something better.

Here's another one, taken many years ago:

These were taken last night from my back garden, looking over the fence and through the trees that grow around the perimeter. The light seemed to be changing by the second..!!

I don't often attempt a contre-jour shot, but this one turned out quite well, I thought. Taken from behind one of the churches in Havant town centre.

Portsmouth Naval Memorial

Taken from Southsea Common, looking towards the sea front. The memorial commemorates approximately 25,000 British and Commonwealth sailors who were lost in the World Wars.

Although it looks like dusk, this was taken a few minutes after midday.........it had taken me an hour on the bus to get there and shortly afterwards the sun disappeared and it began to rain followed by sleet which lasted for 30 mins or so. The sun barely reappeared, but in the end I had a nice stroll along the sea front. but took very few photos.

Early(ish) Morning Light & Silhouettes

nobody@ipernity.com (Keith Burton) — Sat, 13 Dec 2025 12:32:37 +0000

Keith Burton has posted:

There are two more images in the PiPs if you care to look.

These were all taken at around 9am this morning, which was the first day for about a week where we haven't woken up to heavy clouds or rain. Such a pleasure to see.

All three shots were taken through the upstairs windows of my house, which is the only place I can get photos without showing all the houses. cars, lamp posts etc in the road.

Ipernity seems to be behaving itself today (so far). I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

The View Over the Fence

nobody@ipernity.com (Keith Burton) — Fri, 24 Jan 2025 16:28:51 +0000

Keith Burton has posted:

Taken over the back garden fence from my bedroom window, shortly after sunrise. Taking the shot from upstairs means I can avoid getting the car park in the shot!

It's quite unusual to get a shot like this anywhere near sunrise because the sun rises in the front of the house.

A Silhouetted Menagerie

Taken indoors, using an LED light panel as a background. The "menagerie" is made from wooden figures I found in a craft shop.

Exmouth Beach

Keith Burton has posted:

Despite the grey skies, the beach was still quite busy and this couple with the child and dog caught my eye...........and luckily the boat entered the frame with perfect timing.

Cropped to 16:9 format, so probably best viewed large. Thank you!

Little House Silhouettes

Keith Burton has posted:

I'm stuck at home today while workmen finish off some landscape work in my garden. So I decided to have a play with some tiny flat wooden model houses by placing them on a lightbox to make silhouettes. Simple, but effective I think.

Sunshine, Silhouettes and Sea Mist

Taken on South Parade Pier Southsea, Hampshire.

The building you can barely see on the horizon (on the right hand side) enveloped in the mist is Horse Sand Fort, one of a number of forts built in the waters of the Solent over 150 years ago in response to a perceived invasion by the French, which never actually happened.

Some history here if you're interested: solentforts.com/about/solent-fort-history

........and a history of the Pier here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Parade_Pier

I added a bit of information about the fort (even though it is not the subject of the photo), as I know you are an inquisitive bunch on here, and that someone was probably going to ask me what it was :-))

Taken on Southsea sea front. An overcast day with lovely diffused light. I really liked the look of the lamp against the sea and sky and decided to wait and include the passing ship in the shot.

See if you can spot the two birds........

EDIT: The eagle eyes of Frank (bonsai59) have spotted a third bird! See the notes he's added.
