I've been playing with DxO's OpticsPro photo processing software all afternoon. Thought I'd share a few examples.

Another photo from the same vacation, again testing the OpticsPro's ClearView feature. It seems to work, even on a JPG original.

I was working with a colleague yesterday when I noticed the picture beside the printer. Lacking a real camera, I whipped out my Treo and captured it with my telephone. The photo reminded me of a similar pic by Brian H, and of one of mine I'd not yet posted. The bluff in the background, here, is Sleeping Bear.

Used to have a boss, Jeff Villaire, who vacationed at Michigan's Crystal Lake, spending two weeks every summer on the edge of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Jeff passed away several years ago, but his memory lives on in the office with the photographs he used to decorate the place.

Of course, they tend not to think of it with snow.

One photo, three treatments. As though shot with Kodak's high-contrast Kodalith film.

Few of my pictures actually work as Kodalith images, so I was fairly pleased with this one.

Not big breakers; I've seen far larger waves on Lake Michigan. But these were running counter to an impressive headwind just as they hit the sandbars.

The "official" trail from the Pyramid Point trailhead is a bit under three miles and includes a side-path to the top of the bluff; that's where yesterday's photo was taken. Further down the trail we found this alternative route up the back of the dune; quite steep, and perhaps a hundred foot climb. Takes you to a different point on the bluff, and a view of Good Harbor Bay.

Besides the steep path, this particular spot is delightful because it plainly demonstrates that dunes are impermanent, as the hill atop Pyramid Point is obviously migrating, and taking a bite out of the woods behind the sandpile.
