wooden stair in the late c13 north transept, with an old wooden bier. there were originally upper chambers over the transepts linked by that over the c12 crossing and accessed from the south transept's stair turret. the arch from the aisle to the transept is a c15 replacement; beyond can be seen the squint to the chancel.

the brick stair turret contains an excellent example of flemish brickwork of the 1420s, with tumbled brick vaulting rising under the stair, brick newel post, and integral hand rail set in the wall
