Built in 1632 as the Statencollege, the house of the regional government. It is used as a historical and art museum from 1880.

Part of a cloister, later the college for theology students. The Netherlands needed protestant pastors after independence from catholic Spain, so the government at the time funded a college for theology students from a poor background. The building with the step gable is the only building left standing of that college. Now it is the residence of the Hortulanus, the president of the Botanical Garden of Leiden University.
