This is light enough in colour to be marble, but I think more likely to be polished concrete.&lt;br /&gt;

Would make a good site for a picnic - earlier, a family thought so ?&lt;/div&gt;</description>

These "stele", stones carved with images and Mayan writing, were nearly destroyed by the climate. They have been restored and placed indoors.&lt;br /&gt;

This was taken in Mexico, at an old Mayan temple site. I thought it was a great example of how nature will find a way to break through and reclaim land from humanity over time. Also, it's a good example of why you shouldn't plant a tree too close to your house! :-)&lt;/div&gt;</description>

This invention was attributed at the time to the Dutchman Coster. The printer Arent Corsz. Hogenacker ordered the stone. He was not only a printer, but also a punchcutter and type foundry. He was famous for his Arabic letters, used by the professor of Arabic at Leiden University, but he also had Syrian and Greek letters. After his death in 1636 these letters were sold to Oxford University for ƒ 2300.
