Sunset Through Negrelli Viaduct, Karlin, Prague, Bohemia(CZ), 2015

Built in 1850, this viaduct spans 1.1 kilometers from Bubny to Masarykovo Nadrazi (southbound), meaning it actually traverses a large part of Prague, at this portion in Karlin (if I understand the boroughs correctly). The street under this arch of the viaduct is Sokolovska, although the viaduct crosses 5-6 streets along the way, depending on what you're counting. One of the most interesting streets, not seen here, is Rohanske nabrezi, which used to be a railway line, meaning that until the 2017-2021 reconstruction, coal soot from steam locomotives was still visible on the arches:

In any case, getting back to my own photo, when facing west through the Sokolovska arch, it is often possible to get good sunset pictures, as the sun aligns quite well with the arch, without any buildings blocking the view. I still haven't been able to get a good camera to get this shot (I've been having technical problems with my cameras for a number of years, with a minimal budget to address the problem), but I have even been able to get the shot with my cameraphones, as you can see here. For this shot, I was using my Nokia 301.

This was my last shot of my railfanning session, in which I tried to capture the late-day sunlight on Hlavni Nadrazi. Although my Nokia 301 cameraphone was limited, being a cameraphone, it did occassionally have decent luck with sunsets, and not only while pointing directly into the sun.

This was one of the last shots that I took on this Dresden trip, and I like to think it's one of the best. It was especially hard to get since I was shooting into the sun with black and white film (Ilford FP4 125 ISO), and had to get the exposure exactly right. I've done better, but I like this one.

This was a lucky shot that I got walking into Zizkov at dusk, which actually meant quite late at night, as during the summer in Prague it doesn't start to get dark until after 2100 hours. This looks to be a Class 111 with a rake of auto racks, although whether these are new cars or the cars of rail passengers (to be coupled to a long-distance passenger train) I don't know. The bridge was built after I moved to Prague, around 2007 or so (It took awhile to build, starting around 2005) as part of major rerouting of the mainlines through Karlin and Zizkov. On this particular night, I had the chance to walk one of the recently abandoned roadbeds (if I'm not mistaken), only recently converted to a bike path. It would be cool to post some info on that sometime soon, but I haven't got proper photos of it since I didn't have enough light on this particular night.

While I was editing this shot in Gimp, I felt that while I had done a lot of high-saturation edits in the past two years, one more wouldn't hurt.

I also took a number of photos of the sunset itself, both with my cameraphone and with the Yashica. This was one of the best ones, taken with the Yashica. I've darkened this shot and raised the contrast, as well as raising the saturation by a factor (if I'm remembering correctly) of 25 by Gimp's measurements.

While looking for a coffeehouse someone had told us about (which we never found) my friend and I found this lighthouse. The sun was going down, so it gave me the chance to get a few shots of the lighthouse in the setting sun. The exposure on these shots was iffy since I didn't have a working light meter, but when I took this one, which was the darkest, and played with the saturation and contrast in Gimp, I was able to get this.

What really constitutes Letna, or Letna Park, is a matter of definitions. Some people only count the big open space on the south side of Letenske Sady, and some people count the whole park. This is on the north side, next to the famous "Metronome" sculpture. In fact, the wire that these sneakers are hung on supplies electricity to the Metronome.

This was a lucky accident, really. my badly-worn light meter actually gave me a more impressive shot, as the underexposure made the colors richer. On another note, the names Jizdni Mesto and Haje are almost interchangeable. I'm not sure if they're even considered legally different places. I actually took this from the outskirts of town, though, standing in a field.

I know that I've got a lot of these taken in Haje, but Haje does get some pretty impressive sunsets, so I've done a lot of shots there. This one is unfortunately marred by that light leak down the middle. Lomo issues again.

This is Misenska, a historic street in the Mala Strana, or Lesser Quarter, of Prague. At the other end of the street is a Soviet-era street sign in Russian, which gets vandalised whenever anybody tries to fix it from the previous attack. I was there to take a photo of it, but it didn't come out (some other time, I guess).
