george burt brought this tower from london as ballast in his ships. it was originally built as the wellington testimonial clock tower in 1854 on the south side of london bridge, but blocked the traffic, and became one of burt's collection of bits of london to be found around swanage.

george burt brought these ionic columns from the demolished building at 45, regent street, london, built originally by f.herring in 1839, and brought as return ballast in burt's ships. his firm became mowlems, and you bump into bits of london all over swanage.
