Hanging tables, traditionally these would be for a gun crew or other group. Not just for food, some socialising would go on around the tables in off-duty times.
One person would go to the cooks to collect their meal ...

The other side of the deck would be for hammocks

The Ship's Officers wardroom & cabins, almost the stern-most section on the messdeck. It looks like there are facilities for around a dozen officers. The next sections forward of this would be the cabins for the warrant officers [such as the sailmaker, carpenter etc]. Then on the mess deck itself would be the marines and forward of that, the ordinary seamen & ships boys (who would all sleep in hammocks).

Rank definitely hath it's privileges !

The captain's day cabin was the largest area, although on a ship in commission, he would share it with at least four cannon [more if that included "stern chasers" - cannon that fired to the rear of the ship].

This would be the captain's office, dining room and off-duty space, all-in-one. Usually, he would have a sleeping cabin as well as his steward's "pantry". An armed marine would be stationed outside the cabin door ...

Five out of six female pheasants that are visiting our front garden - the sixth one was walking to a point behind the pampas grass while I was setting up the camera.
These are probably recently released birds that have gravitated to a regular food source, probably encouraged by the resident couple ... Our semi-tame male [Hercule / Herki] will be pleased to have a larger "harem" in the spring.

Just outside the converted buildings in the stable yard [NT shop*, cafe, toilet facilities] is this roped off picnic area, with more seating and tables beyond the fence. Behind me is a van selling ice-creams etc.
{*Some extra fundraising is achieved with a second-hand bookshop and plant sales}.

Indeed a rare sight - Perkins hauling the last service of the day, as it arrives at Dalegarth.
I think that this is the first time I've seen Perkins out on the main line, running service trains, other than at a gala.

Perkins is substituting for River Irt, who had failed [broken down] earlier in the day. The necessary repairs appeared to have been completed by the time the down train returned to Ravenglass, as R. Irt was back in the Engine Shed as we went past.

HTT[24thJune2025] - the wider platform at Dalegarth, and additional nearby areas, are well supplied with tables & seats. {and shade, dog bowls etc}

This is the port side "half" of this space.

The starboard side [behind me] has the continuation of the fitted bench seat, a matching table and another set of the chairs.

We've just had a "Sunday Lunch" sitting outside in the sun, which was beating down from a cloudless sky !
{still a little too early for Herdwick lambs, unfortunately. Although there were plenty of others to be seen}

Seats and tables outside "King's" - the refreshment room at Wharf Station [Talyllyn Railway], plus a water bowl for canines. We've just had a snack and hot drinks.
The bridge in the background is a tight fit for trains ... not a normal running day but there are two "photo-charters" out there.
