The first day of 2025 has been wet and miserable, so I thought I'd dig out my macro lens and a ball of wool I've been saving, and produce something bright and colourful.

Driftwood

I spotted this bit of driftwood that someone had propped up against the sea wall in Dell Quay. I thought it had the most marvellous shapes and textures, so decided to grab a photo to share!

I've added a couple of notes to indicate the shapes I see in the wood..!!

Best viewed large for detail.

All taken in Dell Quay, West Sussex in the boat yard. The larger image is part of a wooden post that had been set on fire late last year. The other two are from a large piece of driftwood (an old tree trunk) that had washed up on the shore.

I did not have a macro lens with me so I used my 12-40mmm zom lens which has pretty good close focusing.

Best viewed large.

I spotted this at the edge of a field near Rowlands Castle, Hampshire where I had parked up to take some photos,. It looks as if it's been there for a while and I thought the cut surface made an interesting natural abstract.

Best seen large on black, if you have time.

This is a bench with a missing part.............and you can clearly see that a plant has taken advantage of the empty space. I hope this still counts.
