norman chancel with early c14 tomb recess, and a norman window partially blocked for this was itself the cause of the blocking of an earlier doorway still. some of the church may be saxon.

the island was first colonised by a celtic monastery in c.500, foundations remain. the castle was begun in c.1140; the hall is c12 with c13 buttresses, the walls c13. the castle started falling into the sea in the c14.
