Additional information would be welcome, although I may follow up with more research as it is.</div>

In any case, this is the tram stop for the largest Synagogue in Dresden, seen on the right. It's actually a very well-equipped Synagogue, with sports facilities and so on, as well as this dedicated tram stop. The building isn't what it seems the first few times you look at it, as it has many interesting features hiding in plain view. For example, one portion of it (not visible here) is "twisted," in a not-so-obvious way, and it renaissance-style brickwork that you see here looks different depending on how close you are or what angle you're looking at it from. Needless to say, it doesn't look so Renaissance from every angle, as this is a thoroughly modern building. I didn't take this photo for the Synagogue, though. I just saw a tram coming, and took a couple of shots of the tram.</div>

There is an extensive tram system here, and the trams are varied in age and technological advancement. This tram appears to be a Bombardier Be 5/6 Cobra of the Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich (VZB), one of three tram operators, and the one that is owned by the city. Cobras were originally built by Schindler, being designed in 1996. There were years of production delays before Schindler was reorganized in 2001 and Cobra production was shifted to Bombardier. The order eventually grew to 88 units, which should all be delivered by now (I don't have a current roster). These are modern low-floor trams designed for easier handicap access, but other than that I've had a bit of trouble tracking down technical specifications.</div>

This photo, even if it is a cameraphone photo, holds several records for me. First of all, it's the earliest photo in the year that I've ever taken in Prague and posted online (although I have others from my Nikon N6006 which are earlier in the year in the strict sense, and others which I've never posted), its earlier in the year than any rail photo that I've ever taken, and it's my first-ever photo of one of Prague's night trams, in spite of my having taken them for years. Basically, between about 1230 and 0430, the night trams and night buses are the only services running in Prague, as the Metro is shut down (although services were recently extended a bit), so you're stuck with a bike or a cab (if you don't have a car, and having a car in Prague is generally stupid). I think I've seen all of the tram classes except for maybe the KT8's on night duties, but I still was expecting a Tatra T3 on this shot, as they're still the most numerous.</div>

The dual gauge is in order to facilitate operation to Jablonec, which has a 1-metre narrow-gauge tram system. Actually, as pre-1990's tram lines go, this route is relatively new, having not been completed until 1955. Since 1969, however, the line to Liberec has been the only surviving tram line in Jablonec, and is now operated by DPML. Even the line to Liberec saw sporadic use in the 1970's and 1980's, as reconstruction work was done, and planning argued over. The current operation dates to December 17th, 1989, exactly one month after the Velvet Revolution. The line is currently under reconstruction again, so I'm not aware of what the current service disruptions are. It is proposed as part of the new rebuilding to convert the Jablonec line to standard gauge, but I didn't see evidence of this for certain when I was in Jablonec or Liberec.</div>
