The tug 'En Avant 1' moored at Corporation Quay in the Port of Sunderland. The tug was hauling the accommodation barge 'Sand Vitesse' to Scotland and made a stopover in Sunderland.

The tug 'Svitzer Cecilia' leaving the Hudson Dock after assisting the tanker 'Stolt Redshank'. This was one of the few occasions were a ship requiring tugs headed into the tidal basin rather than one of the riverside quays.

Lost in the fog? A strong temperature differential between the cool sea and warm air had led to a number of days with dense sea fog.

Here the tug 'Svitzer Jubilee' is barely visible even a short distance offshore as it helps the 'BBC Rushmore' leave Sunderland.

The Lenneborg arriving into Sunderland. It was unusual to see such a relatively small cargo ship assisted into port by a tug, despite the stormy conditions. Possibly the captain did not want to take any risks navigating the tricky passage?

The tug 'Multratug 19' hauling the barge 'Bokabarge 7' towards Blyth off Sunderland. I am not sure what the cargo on the barge is, but I suspect they could well be pieces of a windfarm, with a number under construction locally.

The tug Eraclea towing a barge with an unusual structure off Sunderland. The ship tracking websites showed the Eraclea departing Vlissingen on 17 July, with a destination of Blyth. It spent most of the day drifting offshore, possibly waiting for the northerly swell to recede.
