c.f. ripple's may queen misericord for comparison; this roundel probably held two bunches of flowers too once, there's been a bit of damage.

the 1868 mosaic on the pediment of the old main entrance is falling apart, and badly needs restoration. designed by reuben townroe and made by students here under mintons oversight, based on a sykes design around the subject of the great exhibition, with the crystal palace in the background.
