Sunset, Clear Lake

Two weeks ago, while it was still hot and very dry here, my wife and I took our kayaks down to the lake near our house and spent the evening kayaking around the lake and ended the day watching the sunset from our kayaks, a very pleasant evening and perhaps the last chance we will have to use the kayaks since the weather has turned cool and rainy.

Kayaking on Clear Lake

The weather has changed here to cool and rainy, but the last weeks have been hot and dry. One of those hot evenings we went kayaking on the lake near our home, Clear Lake, and after spending several hours on the lake watched the sunset from our kayaks before heading home.

The Giant Green Anemone is found all along the Pacific coast of North America from California to Alaska. This example was photographed in the tidepools at Ruby Beach in Olympic National Park.

We've often found the Giant Green Anemone in large clusters in the tidepools along the Pacific coast of Washington, Oregon and California. These Anemones are closing as the tide recedes.

Taken on a hike in the Sol Duc area of Olympic National Park whil on an extended trip there in 2015. The Sol Duc area is on the north end of the park west of the city of Port Angeles. There are hot springs, several campgrounds, another falls, some virgin forest and a place to watch the salmon along the Sol Duc Road.

The photo is from Lillian Ridge along the trail to Grand Lake in Olympic National Park. The trailhead is at the end of the Obstruction Point Road, a narrow gravel road that is usually note snow free until July. The flowers are a Potentilla (Cinquefoil) species. This area is one of our favorite places in Olympic National Park.

Taken while hiking at Blue Mountain in Olympic National Park. Blue Mountain is at the end of the Deer Park Road, a narrow gravel road on the north side of the park. The flowers are Milk Vetch.

The Hurricane Ridge Road is one of the most popular areas of Olympic National Park. It ends at a visitors' center with great views of the Olympic Mountains to the west. This photo was taken along the road at one of the viewpoints.

Lake Crescent is in Olympic National Park. The lake is twelve miles (20 km) long, 596 feet (182 m) deep and is west of Port Angeles on the northern end of the Olympic Peninsula. It is a great place for hiking and a favorite spot of ours for orchid hunting.
