It is dedicated to St Luke, the Beloved Physician.

Side view of a trolley car that used to run in the streets of Los Angeles.

It currently is part of the collection of the Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, California.

We had nice weather for our visit, seeing blue skies all day. The trolley cars can be run around the museum compound on street tracks, just like they originally ran.

This is a diptych composite of two images. When walking around the magnificent old town in Tallinn, I noticed that the windows of a property neatly reflected the statues in from of the building opposite.

I didn't think to try and get my shooting angle exactly the same for both pictures, so they don't join together exactly, but I thought it makes for an interesting effect.

The rat in the top hat and the older vehicle in the background make it clear that this is a computer generated image. It is eerie how the computer got the lighting and shadows correct.. This image was created using ChatGPT with a prompt to create a night scene in the 1920's in film noir style with a man staring at a lit window in an alley and a rat in a top hat.

Unter dem Begriff Hinterglasmalerei fasst man Glasbilder zusammen, die von der Rückseite der Glasplatte her bemalt sind und in der Aufsicht betrachtet werden. Sie unterscheiden sich darin von den aus Kirchenfenstern bekannten Glasmalereien, die erst in der Durchsicht ihre Leuchtkraft entfalten. Die Ausführung auf der Rückseite der Flachglasscheiben intensiviert die Farben der Hinterglasbilder und verleiht ihnen dauerhaften Glanz.

Während einige frühe Beispiele von Hinterglasmalerei in Technik und Ausführung von höchster Qualität sind, aber in verschwindend geringer Zahl erhalten blieben, haben die religiös-volkstümlichen Hinterglasbilder des späten 18. und des 19. Jahrhunderts weite Verbreitung gefunden, sind im 20. Jahrhundert wieder sehr populär geworden und haben zur Nachahmung angeregt. (WiKi)

Robert Eberhard's data base has no record of the designer or maker of this window. There are some stylistic similarities with William Wailes work of the period, assuming the memorial was commissioned soon after George Farncombe's death in 1858. The use of violet is a bit unusual, in my limited experience, although Wailes east window, in the neighbouring church of Saint Peter, East Blatchington, has purple in small quantities. The blue/red/green colour palette is also similar. The lettering is similar to that used in the West Window at Chichester Cathedral - the 'A' being quite distinctive. It could however be that that style of lettering was commonly used at that period.
