Friday 18 September 2026 (0726) – Mildenhall Bus Station.

Left: Mulleys Motorways YJ59 GFZ, an Optare Solo M950 new in September 2009 to Sargeants Brothers, Kington, Herefordshire in September 2009, seen in the layover bay prior to working the 0740 service 355 to Bury St. Edmunds.

Right: Coach Services Limited YT09 YHM was about to work the schooldays only 0730 service 80 to Brandon (IES Breckland School).

It is an Optare Omnidekka bodied Scania N270UD that had been new to Nottingham City Transport as their 965 new in May 2009. The Omnidekka design was created by East Lancashire Coachbuilders which passed to Optare in October 2008.

(The ITV website states ‘IES Breckland is the first school run for profit in Britain. IES - which stands for International English Schools - is a Swedish company which runs a chain of for profit schools in Sweden’).

The name ‘Breckland’ is that given to a large area of natural heathland and forest covering South Norfolk/North Suffolk

Wednesday 16 September 2026 (1054) - Ambassador Travel 300 (BV22 VSG), a Caetano Levante III bodied Scania K410 new in August 2022, seen arriving at Mildenhall when working the 0715 National Express service 728 from Heathrow Airport (Terminal 5) to Norwich/UEA. Scheduled arrival time here is 1055.

Since the closure of the enquiry office inside the bus station building, where just the public toilets were retained, the remaining area had been unsuccessfully advertised for let as a retail opportunity. It was finally decided to convert the unit for use as a town banking hub following the closure of the Lloyds and Barclays banks and the Post Office. Building work was taking place for the new use.

Local people chat as they wait for local buses to take them home after shopping. I recognise two that were waiting for the 1117 service 358 to West Row. Orange Sainsbury’s bags in abundance!

By Friday 18 September the contractors had enclosed the building with panels bolted to the large concrete blocks.

Mulleys Motorways SJ02 AAW was working the 1020 service 355 from Bury St. Edmunds to Beck Row. It is a former Dublin Bus Alexander ALX400 bodied Volvo B7TL which I believe was their AV248 (02 D 10248) new around January 2002.

Coach Services Limited of Thetford BT63 UUR is on layover between trips on service 80 (1000 from Thetford/1150 to Thetford). It is one of a pair of MCV eVolution bodied Volvo B7RLEs acquired from Simonds of Botesdale in early 2025 although they had been new to Webberbus, Bridgwater in December 2013. (BT63 UUP was the other vehicle acquired).
