The right light

Replacing the Cape St George lighthouse , this one (at right) was erected in 1898 and first lit on 1 May 1899. It operated until January 1994, when it was replaced by the new solar powered LED light at left (and the site was de-manned - lighthouse keeper's house at right). The old light apparently is still lit for an annual Lighthouse Weekend in August of most years. As can be seen in the background, this is clearly at the entrance to Jervis Bay. View large. Dromedary Hotel

Named for nearby Mt Dromedary, this little hotel is in the main street of the village of Central Tilba, established in the 1890s as a base for the local dairy industry and still with a cheese factory. Happy bench Monday and let's all hope for a good week.

The ruins of the Cape St George lighthouse (now Heritage Listed). It seems that a number of errors led to it being built at the wrong place in 1860, with the result that ships continued to be wrecked on the nearby coast (23 during the operation of the light). It was replaced in 1899 by a new lighthouse at the entrance to Jervis Bay and was later demolished (being used as a Navy target) to prevent confusion with the new lighthouse in poor daytime weather. The PiP shows the coastline to the north and the distant entrance to Jervis Bay, where this should have been sited.

I've been pre-occupied recently with preparing my input to a display of paintings and photos called "North to South and In-Between". Two friends who have travelled extensively in the north polar area entered cyanotypes, photos and paintings. I provided some "In-between" photos from Australia and my talented daughter entered four Australian paintings. The "south" section (in the foreground here) was from my old Antarctic slides and a more recent digital image. The display opened yesterday and will run through May. Best viewed large. Happy Wednesday Wall, everyone.

There are several varieties of Morning Glory, this is the purple type. Attractive as the flowers may be, in the Australian context these very vigorously climbing introduced vines are classed as weeds because they outcompete native plants.

The Kiama Jamberoo Uniting Church is the oldest operating public building in Kiama. It opened in 1851 and became the first Wesleyan Chapel in the district. Being near the ocean, it deteriorated badly from salt penetration of the old brickwork, but was restored and re-opened in July 2019.
What's more, there's a bench out in front, so Happy Bench Monday and have a good week, everyone.
