Friday 18 September 2026 (0743) – Mulleys Motorways LW51 ZHJ, driven by a former colleague giving me a wave, seen in King Street, Mildenhall working the 0730 schooldays only service 955 from West Row to Bury St. Edmunds via Barton Mills, Icklingham, Lackford, and Flempton. It is an Alexander ALX400 bodied Volvo B7TL new to Dublin Bus in January 2002 as their AV215 (01 D 10215).

It is an Alexander ALX400 bodied Volvo B7TL new to Dublin Bus in January 2002 as their AV215 (01 D 10215).

Since the closure of the enquiry office inside the bus station building, where just the public toilets were retained, the remaining area had been unsuccessfully advertised for let as a retail opportunity. It was finally decided to convert the unit for use as a town banking hub following the closure of the Lloyds and Barclays banks and the Post Office. Building work was taking place for the new use.

Friday 18 September 2026 (0745) – Mulleys Motorways Limited buses in Mildenhall bus station both bound for Bury St. Edmunds on schoolday only services (both services are available to the general public).

LW51 ZHJ was working the 0730 service 955 from West Row to Bury St. Edmunds via Barton Mills, Icklingham, Lackford, and Flempton. It is an Alexander ALX400 bodied Volvo B7TL new to Dublin Bus in January 2002 as their AV215 (01 D 10215).

YJ23 EKN was working the 0710 service 956 from Lakenheath to Bury St. Edmunds via Tuddenham, Cavenham and Risby. It is one of the two Optare MetroDeckers delivered to Mulleys in March 2023 which were part of an order placed by Reading Buses in June 2018 to operate the Green Line branded route 702 from London to Slough, Windsor and Legoland. Reading Buses cancelled the order in July 2020 as part of a number of financial cutbacks made following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. (Optare was renamed Switch Mobility in November 2020).

Friday 18 September 2026 (0728) – Stephensons of Essex 641 (YN55 NKA) arriving in Mildenhall when working the 0655 service 16 from Bury St. Edmunds to Newmarket.

It is an East Lancs Omnidekka bodied Scania N94 that had been new to London Sovereign as their SLE33 in October 2005.

Coach Services Limited YT09 YHM in Mildenhall Bus Station.about to work the schooldays only 0730 service 80 to Brandon (IES Breckland School). It is an Optare Omnidekka bodied Scania N270UD that had been new to Nottingham City Transport as their 965 new in May 2009. The Omnidekka design was created by East Lancashire Coachbuilders which passed to Optare in October 2008.

(The ITV website states ‘IES Breckland is the first school run for profit in Britain. IES - which stands for International English Schools - is a Swedish company which runs a chain of for profit schools in Sweden’).

The name ‘Breckland’ is that given to a large area of natural heathland and forest covering South Norfolk/North Suffolk

That was all forgotten when I saw this spider feeding on a ladybird.
Rushed indoors for my camera.
Got a whole series of shots of this one.
Fascinating to watch.

Der morgendliche Blick vom Balkon unseres Hotels. Die Sonne ließ die Berge im Hintergrund richtig erhaben wirken. Fasziniert war ich auch von der Wolkenformation, die sich da gebildet hat.

Bei Google habe ich dazu gelesen:
Diese Wolkenmuster entstehen durch sogenannte atmosphärische Schwerewellen. Man kann sich das vorstellen wie Wellen auf einer Wasseroberfläche. Wenn Luftschichten unterschiedlicher Geschwindigkeit oder Dichte aufeinanderprallen, oft begünstigt durch das Überströmen von Bergen wie den Alpen im Hintergrund, gerät die Luft in eine wellenartige Auf- und Abbewegung. Am Scheitelpunkt (Kamm) der Welle steigt die Luft auf, kühlt ab und die Feuchtigkeit kondensiert zu einer dünnen Wolkenlinie. Im Wellental sinkt die Luft wieder ab, erwärmt sich und die Wolke löst sich auf. Dadurch entstehen die blauen, wolkenfreien Streifen dazwischen.

Nach der Abreise sind wir mit dem Bus nach Luzern gefahren. Eine Schifffahrt auf dem Vierwaldstätter See nach Vitznau und ein Besuch der Rigi stand auf dem Programm.
