The St Michael chapel and the hermitage, the ruins of which are still visible at the foot of the chapel, were built in 1402 and hosted pilgrims on their way to Mont-Saint-Michel. It was built on the Montaigu, a peak of just under 300 m, but with an exceptional 360° panoramic view.

LA CHAPELLE SUR LA COLLINE. Construite en 1402 tout comme l'ermitage dont les ruines sont encore visibles au pied de la chapelle, la chapelle St. Michel accueillait les pèlerins en route vers le Mont-Saint-Michel. Elle est bâtie sur le Montaigu, un sommet d'un peu moins de 300 m, mais avec une vue panoramique exceptionnelle à 360°.

DIE KAPELLE AUF DEM BERG. Die Kapelle des Hl. Michael und die Einsiedelei, deren Ruinen am Fusse der Kapelle noch sichtbar sind, wurde im Jahre 1402 erbaut, sie beherbergte die Pilger auf ihrem Weg zum Mont-Saint-Michel. Sie wurde auf dem Montaigu erbaut, einem Gipfel von nur knapp 300 m, aber mit einem aussergewöhnlichen 360°-Panoramablick.

Delphi was an ancient sacred precinct in Greece. It was the seat of Pythia, the major oracle who was consulted about important decisions throughout the ancient classical world. The ancient Greeks considered the centre of the world to be in Delphi.

The sacred precinct occupies a region on the slope of Mount Parnassus. It is now an extensive archaeological site, and since 1938, it has been a part of Parnassos National Park.

In the 1880s the site was occupied by the village of Kastri, about 100 houses, 200 people. Kastri had been there since the destruction of the place by Theodosius I in 390. Before a systematic excavation of the site could be undertaken, the village had to be relocated, but the residents resisted. The village got relocated after an earthquake, with villagers offered a completely new village in exchange for the old site.

The theater, which could seat approximately 5,000 spectators, lies at the northern edge of the Apollo sanctuary. This structure, dating from the 4th century BC, hosted the musical portion of the Pythian Games. The athletic competitions took place in the stadium located further up the slope.

Eine leider schon ziemlich verwitterte Infotafel (--> PiP) informiert über die Quelle, welche über Jahrhunderte das Kloster mit Wasser versorgte.
Im Bildhintergrund sind noch Klostergebäude zu erkennen.
Bildbearbeitung: Nur leichte Kontrastverstärkung.
