Zum heutigen Weltfotografietag hatte ich viele Pläne - die letztlich alle buchstäblich ins "Wasser gefallen" sind. Es hat pausenlos geregnet. Ich habe mich in ein Cafe genau gegenüber dem Kino Babylon gesetzt, und auf besseres Wetter gewartet. Ständig den Kino- Eingang im Blick, ärgerte mich das fehlende "D" bei "Nordstream" (s. PiP !). Nach einer Weile kamen tatsächlich 2 Männer mit Leiter und brachten ein "D". Jetzt, Stunden später, ärgere ich mich, dass ich nicht von meinem Platz aufgesprungen bin (der Kellner hatte gerade die bestellte Pizza gebracht) - und DAS Foto zum Weltfotografietag geschossen habe. That`s life !

Fotografen, die ich bewundere und als Vorbild sehe, gibt es viele.
Nennen möchte ich aber nur 2:
Sebastiao Salgado und Harald Hauswald.
Der erste ist weltbekannt, der Zweite eher eine "Berliner Größe".
Gemeinsam haben sie ihren besonderen Blick auf "Menschen in ihrem Umfeld".
Salgado ist voriges Jahr gestorben; ich hatte das Glück, ihn vor einigen Jahr persönlich anlässlich einer Ausstellung seiner Fotos treffen zu können. Hauswald ist mein Geburtsjahrgang und lebt schon genauso lange in Berlin wie (ca. 50 Jahre). Vermutlich haben sich in all den Jahren unsere Wege in der Stadt des öfteren gekreuzt ...

The Olympic Games were held for more than 1,000 years. The first games took place in 776 B.C. Participants and spectators from all over Greece took part. They were held continuously over 293 Olympiads until the Roman Emperor Theodosius I banned the Games in 393 AD, as he considered them a pagan cult.

The museum's Neoclassical building was completed in 1888. It stands on a hill about 400 meters northwest of Altis, across the bridge over the Kladeos.

In February 2012, an armed robbery was committed at the museum, during which numerous exhibits were stolen. However, the theft was solved in November 2012, and the items were recovered.

My World Photography Day submission for 2026. I was trying to compose a shot to include the yellow fire hydrant, yellow curb, yellow caution sign in the street, and yellow trim on the Smeede Hotel when suddenly a man in a yellow shirt appeared. What luck!

I began World Photography Day by watching a video by a photographer I admire, Nick Carver. Carver is California a commercial architectural photographer and has also described himself as both a landscape photographer and a street photographer that sucks at street photography.” On the street, he uses the tools of landscape photography to capture, not a decisive moment, but the environment in which those moments occur. He shoots large and medium format film and works slowly and meticulously. I tend do to the opposite: small format digital, fast, and a bit sloppy, but I still enjoy and learn a lot from hearing Nick explain his choice of location, film, composition and lighting.
